Skincare doesn’t need to be complicated to be effective. In fact, for most people, a simpler routine is easier to stick to. Once you are in a good routine, then you can think about extra steps if you'd like to.
Here’s a step by step guide to creating a simple skincare routine:
Step 1: Cleanse
Cleansing is the foundation of any routine. A good cleanser removes makeup, SPF, and daily build-up without stripping the skin.
-
Cleanse once in the morning if needed. I like to use a product that is easy to use in the shower, for instance our Earth Harbor Rose Bay Calming Soap or our Madara Purifying Cleansing Foam wash. Using a cream or oil in the shower doesn't work as well.
-
Always double cleanse in the evening. You can double cleanse with one product twice, but I think it's far more effective to use two difference cleansers as this will add an extra layer of skin support to your cleanser. For instance, my favourite double cleanser routine is to use the Twelve Beauty Clementine Cleanser followed by Emiko's Deep Clean.
Step 2: Treat with intention
This is where serums, treatments, or targeted products come in. If you experienced with active ingredients then you may already be ahead of the game with which serums to use and when. If you are just starting a new skincare routine then I would recommend starting with just off with two serums and then add as you build in confidence.
This might be:
-
Hydration
-
Brightness
-
Sensitivity
-
Breakouts
- Aging
Consistency matters more than complexity. If starting off with two serums then I would recommend using on the morning (for instance you could try our Madara SOS Intense Hydra Rose Jelly which is an effective & light weight hydrating serum and then in the evening try out our Earth Harbor Samphire Serum-a retinol alternative).
Step 3: Moisturise and protect
A good moisturiser helps support your skin barrier and lock in hydration. In the morning, follow with SPF to protect your skin from daily environmental stress. Your skin type will dictate the type of moisturiser you need and just the sensation of putting a product on your skin will often give you a good indicator of whether you skin is eating it up or not, or if its lying on the surface. That is why at Just BeYOUtiful we let you try out any product in our studio so that you can get a good sense of texture and smell. Skincare is a tactile thing and finding a product that works well whilst making you feel good is important.
